- Volunteer Cornwall, in conjunction with IVO, are pleased to announce two free two-day Paediatric First Aid courses for staff and volunteers from Voluntary and Community groups.
IVO works to improve the workforce from the Voluntary and Community Sector involved in providing services to children and young people. Therefore this course is for individuals from groups that work directly with children and young people (but not necessarily exclusively).
The course covers:
* First Aid Regulations
* Priorities of Treatment
* Dealing with Unconsciousness
* Basic Life Support for Adults, Children and Babies
* Recovery Position
* Dealing with Choking, Bleeding, Burns and Broken Bones
* Recognising and Treating Common Childhood Medical Conditions

- This three day course is ideal for first-time trainers who need to understand the basics of training practice or those looking to refine their techniques
This qualification encourages a flexible approach to training delivery which takes into account recent advances in accelerated learning and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).
The course covers:
• how training can best be delivered to secure effective learning
• the ways to structure and design training sessions
• how to make training sessions interesting, stimulating and relevant
Candidates are assessed on their design and delivery of a short training session which they are required to deliver to other members of the group. Learners do not need to have any prior formal qualifications to participate on this course.
Cost £220 plus VAT per person.

- This course is designed to help improve the workplace culture for occupational health and safety by enabling learners to understand the basic principles of risk assessment. Although not all employees or volunteers are expected to undertake risk assessments themselves, they may be asked to contribute to the process and will be expected to act to protect their own health and safety and that of others.
The course covers:
• how to contribute both to the maintenance of a safe work environment and to the process of formal risk assessment
• the legal requirements for risk assessment
• the principles of risk assessment including hazards, risks and control measures; the five steps of risk assessment; the hierarchy of control; risk assessment review and record keeping.
